Feeding tube (PEG)
For people who cannot swallow safely, a soft feeding tube is placed through the skin into the stomach with the help of the scope.

Risks
Infection at the skin site, leakage or a blocked tube can happen and are usually easy to treat. Serious complications are uncommon.

Can the patient still eat by mouth?
It depends on how safe swallowing is. Some people take small amounts by mouth along with tube feeds.
How long does the tube last?
Many months. It can be changed when needed, and removed if swallowing recovers.
